ARORA Donor Day
On Saturday, 9/13, ARORA will once again host a celebration of life. ARORA is the Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency, and our staff looks forward to another successful Donor Day in Ft. Smith. This free and family-friendly event will be held at the West End Park in downtown Ft. Smith, from 11 AM—2 PM. Music will be provided by Mr. Cabbage Head and the Screaming Radishes, always a big hit with area residents! We will be offering free hot dogs, ice cream, water and popcorn, as well as free T-shirts. The Ferris wheel and carousel will be open for business, as will the Boom-a-Rang Diner and snack bar. We hope you will come and join the fun.
The event will be a huge thank-you to those who are already registered, a chance to honor our donor families, a time to remember those who lost their lives while waiting for a transplant, and a chance to celebrate with recipients who have been given the Gift of Life. We will be recognizing, as special guests, several recipients and donor families from the area. Nationally, over 123,000 people are currently on the waiting list to receive an organ; in Arkansas alone, there are presently 319 people waiting. It is very important for citizens to register as donors, and unfortunately, Sebastian County has one of the lowest percentages of registered donors in the entire state. We will have registration stations at the park on the day of the event, with staff ready to answer questions and register those who wish to do so.
We invite you to also consider attending the Salvation Army’s Rolling on the River event, later on the same day, to complete your fun day in the West End. Remember, also, that the Farmer’s Market will be open during most of our event, right across the street. Downtown has much to offer families on September 13, and we hope you will join us!
