2018 Healthy Workplace Award Winners

For Immediate Release
Fort Smith, Arkansas. Friday, February 1, 2019. The Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce announced the selected winners of its 2018 Healthy Workplace Award Winners at its February First Friday Breakfast.  The event was held at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Brandon Bullard, COO & VP of Finance, Baptist Health-Fort Smith & Van Buren and the Healthcare Committee Chair for the Fort Smith Chamber presented the awards for the winners.

Each year the Chamber extends appreciation and recognizes businesses that show a commitment to health and wellness in the workplace.  There are countless reasons why companies should implement and promote healthy workplace activities.  Most importantly it is a cost-effective way to thank and honor valued employees.  Businesses that participate in a wellness program are encouraged to apply for the annual Healthy Workplace Award.  The businesses may apply in three different categories; small, medium, and large and are graded on a point system in the following: wellness program, leadership application and support, promoting health and wellness to employees, company support and participation outside the workplace, and measurement on the outcome of the programs.

We want to thank the following businesses that applied for our 2018 award year and continue to demonstrate their commitment to helping their employees to be healthy: ArcBest, Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care, Baptist Health – Fort Smith, Ingersoll Rand/Trane, Martin’s Heating & Air, Methodist Village, Nabholz, Nestle/Gerber, United Federal Credit Union, and USA Truck
The Chamber’s Healthcare Committee had the challenging task of reviewing and scoring the applications.  The following companies are the 2018 Healthy Workplace award winners with highlights from their applications:
United Federal Credit Union – Small Business Category
“United has partnered with THRIVE.  This is a comprehensive, personalized program that allows personal goals for each person to be set; such as: losing weight, getting more active, improving diet or simply maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”

Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care – Medium Business Category
“AFMC management supports wellness initiatives by budgeting money to support the various wellness activities and by participating in the wellness events. We now have a Participatory Based Wellness Program and give discounts for employee and family health insurance premiums to employees who participate in yearly biometric screenings.”

Nabholz Corporation – Large Category
“Nabholz Corporation has a nationally recognized outcomes-based wellness program addressing the five areas that drive the health insurance claims: blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, nicotine use and obesity.  Each category is tied to a monetary incentive, encouraging employees and spouses to responsibility for their own health.”

This year the Healthcare Council also decided to recognize on of our applicants for their innovative approach to increasing health and wellness awareness in their organizations.  The 2018 Innovation Recognition Award was awarded to Nestle/Gerber.

Nestle/Gerber has several innovative programs to promote health and wellness in their organization including its Best Life Passport Program, CHILL program, Healthy Holiday Eating Packet, and departmental challenges. The Best Life Passport Program – The Journey to Your Best Life; is a six-week program with incentives such as a weekend getaway and gym memberships.  The CHILL program focuses on stress reduction and mindfulness.  The Healthy Holiday Eating Packet and departmental challenges help employees focus on dietary and physical fitness.
