Area Agency on Aging of Western Arkansas Celebrates GivingTuesday
Area Agency on Aging of Western Arkansas Celebrates GivingTuesdayFORT SMITH, Ark., (November 18, 2021) – Area Agency on Aging of Western Arkansas will inspire generosity this GivingTuesday by raising funds for its In-Home Assistance (IHA) program, which provides seniors with items they can not afford, like personal care services, pharmacy medications and mobility aids.
GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on Nov. 30.
AAAWA is joining GivingTuesday for one reason: the community. AAAWA believes in supporting the local aging and medically frail community, which is the purpose of its GivingTuesday campaign. Arkansas has the fifth-highest percentage of people in poverty in the United States. AAAWA aims to help these people through the services and resources provided by the IHA program.
“GivingTuesday is a great opportunity to give ahead of the holiday season," said Jennifer Hallum, AAAWA’s CEO. Often for working adults, the holidays are extra busy, and giving back to the community is often forgotten this time of year. Many seniors in our coverage area spend this time of the year alone and feeling forgotten. Giving Tuesday is a one-day event in which you can bless others. Please consider joining us and those around the globe to give. I have yet to meet anyone that has told me they became poor by giving.”
Those who donate through AAAWA’s Facebook page on Tuesday, Nov. 30, will be entered to win prizes donated by businesses in the area. Additionally, those who feel inspired to give back may also write letters to seniors living in apartments managed by AAAWA by visiting www.agingwest.org/GivingTuesday.
