OG&E rewards ABB with $544,000 rebate for lighting upgrades
LED retrofit and networked lighting controls will provide ABB with long-term energy savings
FORT SMITH, Ark. – Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E) has presented ABB of Fort Smith, Arkansas, with a $544,000 rebated check for a LED lighting retrofit and networked controls project the company undertook in 2018. The check is the largest lighting rebate check OG&E has given in its Arkansas territory.
“Many companies in Arkansas have experienced the benefits of our Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency programs, and we’ve been proud to distribute rebate checks in Arkansas for energy efficiency improvements,” said Robin Arnold, Lead Program Manager at OG&E. “The project with ABB is a tremendous success story for this program.”
ABB decided to undertake this project with OG&E due to the significant energy savings as well as the reduction in peak demand and maintenance costs the project would provide.
The project included the installation of new LED light fixtures throughout the ABB campus, with particular emphasis on the main motor plant and the “bays” building. The fixtures, in conjunction with the lighting controls and occupancy sensors, have the ability to dim and complete shut off after a specified time interval of not occupancy. The networked lighting system also can run custom occupancy schedules.
The combination of the reduced wattage LED fixtures, advanced network controls, occupancy sensing and daylight harvesting will net about 700,000 to 1 million kWh in energy savings annually.
“While we’re excited about the rebate check, we’re even more pleased with the long-term energy savings the fixtures and lighting controls will provide,” said Johnny McKusker, Head of NEMA Motor Operations.  “We’re thankful to OG&E for assisting us in a project that will benefit our business and community.”
