Methodist Village Senior Living (MVSL) Announces Establishment of Endowment
FORT SMITH, AR (October 8, 2020) –Today, Methodist Village Senior Living (MVSL) Board President, Charles Wohlford, and CEO, Melissa Curry, announced the establishment of the MVSL Endowment. The Endowment was inspired by previous Board President, and Board Member of sixteen years, Dr. Taylor Prewitt and his wife, Mary. “Dr. Prewitt’s heart has always been for the care of others. While working with Dr. Prewitt at MVSL, he and Mary’s vision was to one day be able to care for retired ministers and their spouses. Because of his inspiration, we now have the MVSL Endowment to support the care of retired ministers and their spouses, along with other great causes to help fulfill our mission” said Melissa. The endowment willprovide a reliable source of income in perpetuity, that MVSL can count on for annual distributions. The endowment will grow over time with additional gifts. “This is an important day in our community because every dollar in the MVSL Endowment represents an opportunity to continue to give great care and provide wonderful life experiences for our residents. This endowment is another way the legacy of Methodist Village’s love of Christ and quality of care will be demonstrated,” remarked Charles.
The great heritage at MVSL began with a skilled care unit that had thirty-three beds. Now, almost sixty years later, the skilled care unit (now called Care Center) has grown from thirty-three to one hundred forty-five beds. In 1974, ‘The Village’ apartments were built to provide affordable Independent Living, with twenty-two apartments currently occupied. In 2019, MVSL expanded its mission to encompass assisted living and memory care with the opening of a forty-five apartment Assisted Living/Alzheimer’s Special Care Unit (AL/ASCU) including an on-site Multi-Treatment Center providing residents and staff with access to a General Practitioner, Dentist, Optometrist, Podiatrist and Audiologist without leaving the campus. Their thirty-acre campus is the only faith-based, non-profit, complete continuum of care “Life Plan Community” in the River Valley offering comprehensive total patient care through independent living, assisted living, long term care, memory care, respite, inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation. These services allow for a community that enables seniors to live on one campus throughout their life, as their needs change.
MVSL is currently in the process of planning and fundraising for Phase II of capital improvements. This project will include adding an enclosed walkway that will connect the Care Center and Assisted Living/ASCU, as well as exterior renovations and additional office space in the Care Center which has not been updated since 1962, expanding our Training Center, adding Administrative Offices, and adding additional parking.
Individuals or organizations interested in making a gift into the MVSL Endowment Fund can contact Carol Smith, Business Development Director for MVSL at firstname.lastname@example.org.
MVSL’s mission is “To provide wonderful life experiences that enable our residents and their families to lead full and enriching lives.” MVSL’s vision is “To exceed the expectations of our residents and families while inspiring hearts and minds.”
