Methodist Village Senior Living Launches Free Community Caregiver Series Starting August 2025
Fort Smith, AR - Methodist Village Senior Living (MVSL) is proud to announce the launch of a new Community Caregiver Series beginning August 7, 2025, designed to support and empower individuals caring for loved ones at home. This free educational series will provide hands-on training, practical techniques, and valuable resources for family caregivers throughout the River Valley.
The series will consist of two two-hour sessions, led by MVSL's experienced care team. Participants will learn essential caregiving techniques, including mobility assistance, personal care support, dementia communication strategies, and how to manage caregiver stress, all with the goal of helping families provide compassionate, informed care at home.
"At MVSL, we know that many families are caring for loved ones on their own, often without formal training or support," said Melissa Curry, CEO of MVSL. "This series is our way of giving back to the community-equipping caregivers with tools, confidence, and connection."
In 2025, nearly 63 million Americans-about one in four adults-served as family caregivers, most without formal training and often at the expense of their own well-being News Arkansas Human Services research underscores that caregiver stress can contribute to poorer outcomes for care recipients, including increased risk of early institutionalization.
The sessions will be led by MeLynnda Dunn, Education Director, and Abagail Rodriquez, CNA Instructor, who bring years of experience in senior care and caregiver education. Classes will be held on the MVSL campus, and there will be no fee to attend.
The kickoff date will be Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. The series will be held two days a month for two hours each at the MVSL Education Building, 7425 Euper Lane, Fort Smith, AR.
"We believe education is powerful," said Melynnda Dunn. "Whether you're new to caregiving or have been doing it for years, this series will offer support, skill-building, and encouragement."
