Arvest Foundation Announces $50,000 Donation to Help Fund New Cancer Center
FORT SMITH, Ark. (Oct. 17, 2025) – The Arvest Foundation recently announced a $50,000 donation to Mercy Health Foundation to help fund construction of the new Mercy Fort Smith Cancer Center.
Mercy Fort Smith broke ground in August on the new center, which will help expand oncology care for patients and families in the River Valley. The expansion is expected to double oncologists, improve services and access to equipment, and provide more research opportunities.
Mike Jacimore, president of Arvest Bank – Fort Smith Region, and Arvest sales manager Lori Winesburg recently presented the donation to Mercy staff and representatives.
“We all know family, friends and colleagues who have been affected by cancer, and that is why this expansion is so vital to our region,” said Jacimore. “The new center will not only allow more patients to stay local for their treatment but also provide a better experience during a very difficult time. On behalf of the Arvest Foundation, it’s an honor to help play a role in supporting this project.”
The $41 million cancer center, expected to open in 2027, will include 20,000 square feet of added space and the renovation of 15,000 square feet of existing space. The Mercy Health Foundation is raising $4.5 million to meet terms of a $2 million award from the Mabee Foundation to support the project.
“For over 170 years, the Sisters of Mercy have served this region bringing hope and healing to our community. It’s a massive undertaking, and we simply can’t do it alone,” said Patrick Pendleton, executive director for Mercy Health Foundation Fort Smith. “That’s why we’re so excited when partners like the Arvest Foundation come alongside us in the effort. This gift to Mercy’s Cancer Center Expansion Project is one that will positively impact thousands of patients and families for many decades to come.”
